My recent move to this new site has given me an opportunity. One I’ve always had, but never taken up before.

That opportunity quite simply was reading over my old articles and stories. With the format of the new site I actually went through and re-read just about everything as I moved it. I have to say it’s amazing, even to myself, at how much I’ve changed.

I get up in the morning, shower and go to work like most people do. I don’t even consider how different I am now from a year ago. For the most part I feel exactly the same. Yet having read those bits of thought and imagination I put down has ellicited a peculier reaction: “Wow, I did that?”

I have to admit it’s not that I’m impressed with it, quite the opposite actually. Most, if not all, of the old stuff is really amature. Not that my current endeavors are going to win me any prizes, but there’s definitely been some improvement.

The problem is that I look at what I’ve written and the first thought is to change things and update them. While I’m certain I could improve on everything posted here, that would take some effort and more importantly time. The whole purpose of moving here is to give me an easily accessible outlet; a reason to finish some of the things I’ve started. This column is just the beginning.

The perfectionist in me wants everything to be just right, but the danger with that is never finishing anything. Can anything ever be absolutely perfect? Well, not when I’m doing it. At some point you just have to call things done.

So with that thought, I’m leaving most everything as is. I still have the ability to go back and correct as needed, but the focus is going to be forward. Who knows, maybe history will appreciate seeing all the crap I’ve done.
